Cultural Research Program

Itinerary

Arrive in Varanasi, one of the world’s oldest living cities and a vibrant hub for cultural and religious diversity. After check-in at your accommodation, attend a welcome orientation session led by a local research coordinator or academic expert. The session introduces students to Varanasi’s multi-faith heritage, the importance of cultural anthropology, and methods of field documentation. Evening walk along the Assi Ghat for cultural observation, followed by dinner and overnight stay in Varanasi.

Begin the morning with a guided heritage walk through the old city — exploring temples, shrines, and the living traditions of Kashi. Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Tulsi Manas Temple, and Bharat Mata Mandir, documenting architectural styles, rituals, and community engagement. In the afternoon, participate in a fieldwork session with guidance on observation techniques, interviews, and cultural mapping. Evening optional Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, capturing the harmony of devotion and culture. Overnight stay in Varanasi.

After breakfast, travel to Sarnath, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon. Explore Dhamek Stupa, Mulagandha Kuti Vihar, and Sarnath Archaeological Museum to understand Buddhist heritage and art evolution. Engage in a research interaction session with monks or heritage experts discussing religious coexistence and symbolism. Return to Varanasi for an evening group discussion and reflection journal session. Overnight stay in Varanasi.

Morning academic workshop — students compile their findings into short presentations or group reports on themes such as “Faith and Space,” “Cultural Continuity,” or “Art as Identity.” Session concludes with feedback from instructors and distribution of participation certificates. Post-lunch, transfer to railway station or airport for departure, carrying with you valuable research experience and cultural insight.
